Lunar Eclipse

We have been really busy getting ready for summer traffic; but couldn’t resist the temptation to spend a few hours enjoying the lunar eclipse on May 15-16, 2022.

Ideally we would have imaged the phases using the 26” Newtonian reflector or the 114mm Vixen refractor. However, our flagship mount is down while we install a new telescope control system. So we grabbed some images with smaller lenses attached to our Nikon D850. It required several equipment swaps through the session. Our neighbor Daniel Luedeman was an able assistant going out on the Observatory roof multiple times.

The images are nice, but seeing it visually through our16” Dobsonian and astronomy binoculars was stunning!
