Daytime Tours.
Guided Tours of the Observatory are available daily. Daytime tours are provided by reservation only. Please call us at 605-381-1521 or email us at observatory@goldenwest.net so we can determine an appropriate time based on the size and needs of your group. Your daytime tour can start as early as 9 a.m. and as late as 1 p.m. Guided tours last approximately 1 1/2 hours.
Participants will view our two exhibit galleries and learn about telescope making and the history of Badlands Observatory. Solar viewing may be available, depending on weather conditions, using a special hydrogen alpha filter through the vintage 6 inch f/15 Jaegers Refractor in the dome area and an 8” Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain equipped with a solar white-light filter on the Observing Deck.
The cost is $10 per person 10 years and older. Self-guided tours are not available at this time.
